Tim Berg + Porter Robinson

Posted on Updated on

Today we have a delicious remix from Porter Robinson. The 18 year-old, North Carolina phenom is still only a high school senior. Yet he still somehow has the talent to conquer Beatport’s Electro House chart earning the support from the likes of Miles Dyson, Paul Van Dyk, Armand Van Helden, Dirtyloud, and even Motley Crüe’s Tommy Lee.

His massive bangers are loaded with nasty electro dubstep hooks. Others may call his stuff progressive, I call it progressively good. This kid just keeps getting better and better.

Robinson is set to tour the US this fall, check out the listings here.

Karraskilla – Expresso Cali

Posted on Updated on

Karraskilla’s delivers in Expreso Cali, a hard hitting gem off Tren Siete Expreso Cali. The DJ who seems to be stationed all over creates an ambience of dark dub techno and prominent echoing strings in the latest single. A 7-minute beat that does wonders. It’s pulsating, electric, and subtly aggressive. Hard and fitting for a Wednesday.

Head to myspace for beatport buy links!

Matisyahu + Jakwob

Posted on Updated on

Many of my friends who follow this blog will kind of chuckle to themselves when they hear this Matisyahu remix by Jakwob. Matisyahu used to be ‘the shit’ last summer for excellent summer beats. An international friend led me to him during their stay in Canada. With them back home this track has me reminiscing hard. Jakwob’s remix does it right by maintaining the original reggae backdrop while giving it a rough dub-like edge. I’m digging it a lot. And to those couple of people who introduced me to Matisyahu before disappearing from my life, come back, you’re greatly missed.

I’m assuming Akon did his own touch on the track before Jakwob, so the samples were already there… but I don’t follow mainstream well so I’m not 100% where they came from. They’re not too shabby though.

Rune Lindbæk presents Kanakas [Odessa EP]

Posted on Updated on

I recently caught the Odessa EP by Rune Lindbæk presents Kanakas.  Wow. completely amazing on so many different levels.  It may take a couple listens but that powerful funk vibe is fucking awesome.  Rune Lindbæk is a nice fellow from Norway.  Catch him planning a mini-tour beginning February 2010.  It nicely ends in Odessa; fitting for such a great track.  Check the dates here.

The EP hit shelves last November.  If you have not had the opportunity to check it out you must right here!

Koro Inu + MMII [Black Dog Dubs]

Posted on Updated on

midnightminustwo does dubwise with this four tracker from Koro Inu. It was originally a side project for label boss Phil Clodhoppa, who, with two other musical projects that have very distinctive sounds, needed an avenue for exploring his love for dub and beats.

This method transcends throughout these Black Dog Dubs, which kick off with four tracks that explore bass culture, while all sharing the same stripped back and lean dub ethic of enveloping bass, solid rhythms and cascading melodies.

The Funktuary [Hot City Remix]

hotcity

Wow!, what a raw dirty bass-line this track has. I can’t help but turn up the subs and pump up this Hot City remix to The Funktuary’s Wip Electric.  Drum n’ bass + dub step garage, and a little classic house has never sounded so good together.  What a flawless mixup! Hot City hail from Great Britain but won’t be contained for long.  This track was debuted on Kiss FM and by Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac. It should catch on real quick, so if you were deep into the late 90s house scene you might just dig this below.

meterhead

LA-based METERHEAD has put together a fantastic new EP featuring three great remixes (Wale, Acid Girls, and The Black Lips).  I can’t get enough of this Acid Girls remix right now.  It’s my personal favourite and comes ready for the hardwood. Get ready to move.

PinkIsPunk

Pink is Punk caught my attention with another ridiculous remix.  This time a Dub-styled heavy hitter version of Rondo Parisiano.  It’s real simple but effective and the base line won’t quit.  Easy to catch yourself head bobbin’ too.
